2005 MEADA Events

January

  • Minnesota Police Chief Association awards MEADA $1,000 to develop additional "How To" manuals.
  • Senator Rosen invites MEADA to attend Meth Day at the Capital Rotunda. MEADA displays table top booth and discusses grassroots efforts with elected officials (1-19-05).
  • MEADA begins the second production of "How To" manuals, all on CD’s & DVD’s.

February

  • The first meeting occurs with Senator Ourada and Representative Anderson regarding legislation on restricting drug paraphernalia sales in tobacco shops.

March

  • David Parnell, spends March 15-18, 2005, speaking to Wright County high school students and citizens. Nine presentations were given throughout Wright County schools. One evening presentation was done at Buffalo high school for all concerned citizens to learn more about one mans struggle with a debilitating addiction.

May

  • 1st Annual MEADA Golf Tournament to raise funds to community projects. The Buffalo Lions Club all proceeds, $5,000 to the MEADA organization.

June

  • Prepare for several communities' festivities:
    MEADA pens
    MEADA t-shirts ($10/ea)
    MEADA water bottles
    MEADA plastic bags (9x12)
    MEADA brochures (w/updated statistics)

July

  • MEADA raises nearly $500 in donations during the Wright County Fair. MEADA t-shirts and water bottles were for sale along with many other free resources for the public.
  • MEADA hosts their 1st Youth Summer Event at Sturges Park, Buffalo. The event included guest speaker David Parnell and local Christian band, Remnant Faith. Well over 1,000 in attendance, additionally $1,700 were raised through donations to MEADA
  • High school students promote Youth Summer Event and meth awareness by bagging groceries.
  • The Buff-N-Glo Lube and Car Wash of Buffalo donates 50% of car wash proceeds ($1,700) during one weekend, to MEADA.

October

  • MEADA's educational poster campaign starts with three distinctly different posters (qty: 2,500 of each) which are distributed throughout all of Wright County.
  • Delano high school promotes Red Ribbon Week and Hugs not Drugs t-shirts.
  • MEADA invited to speak at Orange County, Florida's meth awareness orkshop.
  • Buffalo middle school sells "Meth Kills" t-shirts to students.
  • Delano sets up mock meth lab at homecoming game.

November

  • MEADA invited to speak and have their display booth at the Initiative Foundation's MN Ice Conference in St. Cloud Minnesota.
  • For Chemical Health week Buffalo High School students organize events surrounding meth and drug awareness. Every student who pledges to remain clean and sober receives a "Meth Kills" MEADA bracelet.
  • MEADA's first 15 second cinema advertisement is shown prior to every movie in Buffalo.
  • An intervention & mentoring program called, Pay It Forward, begins for Buffalo middle school girls which is sponsored and supported by MEADA.
