2004 MEADA Events
January
- A local meth awareness group develops out of the Buffalo Safe Schools Committee. Local stakeholders decide to take a stand against the increasingly dangerous problem to the area known as Methamphetamine.
March
- The Meth awareness group becomes the Methamphetamine Education and Drug Awareness (MEADA) Coalition of Wright County
- A MEADA hotline number is created to be a resource for concerned community members. (763) 682-7713
May
- MEADA launches several initiatives to educate Wright County about Meth. A round table event airs on Buffalo's Cable Channel 12 the original website is launched (www.meada.org).
- Press releases in local papers and public service announcement on KRWC (a local radio station and partner with MEADA) begin introducing Wright County to MEADA and its mission.
- Todd Hoffman, Wright County Narcotics Division trains 15 MEADA members to speak about on the topic of Meth.
- MEADA's 1st ever community event is held at Buffalo City Hall, with 75 people attend the live panel discussion.
July
- An expansion team begins an initiative to create local “MEADA’s” in every city throughout Wright County.
August
- MEADA receives grant money from the local Wal-Mart Store.
- Distribution of MEADA pens begins.
- The speaker bureau contacts local organizations to start a comprehensive approach to educating the public about Meth.
October
- Distribution of pre-printed MEADA brochures begins.
November
- The Association of Minnesota Counties (AMC) awards MEADA with the County Achievement Award in recognition of innovations in government that have improved the quality of life in Minnesota.
- MEADA is involved for the 2nd straight year at Buffalo High School for the Chemical Health week
December
- MEADA groups form in Delano and Rockford.
